What can we do to experience more comfort and joy every day of the year?

1. Define What
Comfort and Joy Really Means to You
We can take for
granted that we know what certain words mean to us. What does 'comfort' look
and feel like to you? What does it not look and feel like? What does 'joy'
look and feel like to you? What does it not look and feel like? Once you
have the answers to these questions, you will be more aware of where to find
it.
2. Make
Decisions Based On These
Often we make decisions based upon things such as how much more money
something will bring us or cost us or how well it will enable us to reach
career or education goals etc. Next time when you are making such a
decision, include considering to what extent the alternatives will bring you
more comfort and joy.
3. Remind
Yourself Daily for Your Desire for More Comfort and Joy
In our hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we can get caught up into the
details of our day and seem to forget what we are really desiring for
ourselves, in this case, more comfort and joy. A simple reminder first thing
in the morning as we set up for our day can make a big difference.
4. Remove
Things Out of Your Life That Do Not Bring Comfort and Joy
Often we can have things in our lives that actually are counter productive
to having more comfort and joy in our lives. Make a list of these things,
relationships or activities and take steps to eliminate or change them.
5. Do Something
Everyday That Brings Comfort and Joy
It doesn't have to be anything big - even adding one small thing that adds a
bit of comfort & joy in your day can make a big difference. It may be
something you do for yourself early on in the day or it could be something
that you can look forward to doing throughout your day such as sipping on a
cup of herbal tea for 15 minutes quietly before you go to bed.
6. Take the
Best Care of Yourself
In our busy lives our own care can be the very last consideration in terms
of our priority. When we practice extreme self-care and take the best care
of ourselves, we are more likely to have the energy, enthusiasm and presence
to experience more comfort and joy in our day. To take that first step,
identify what types of self-care activities you are in need of most.
7. Eliminate
Complication - Simplify
Living with complexity in our lives doesn’t sound very comfortable or
joyful. Often our lives can become more complex with the addition of new
things without the elimination or streamlining of existing things in our
lives. As a first step, look for areas of opportunity to simplify your life.
8. Use Your
Unique Strengths
All of us have skills that come very natural to us. These skills are so very
comfortable for us to use that we often take them for granted and mistakenly
assume everyone has these skills. The first step is to realize what your
unique and natural gifts are, and find opportunities to use them more often.
9. Delegate
Activities Requiring Your Weaknesses
All of us have areas of weaknesses – skills that do not come naturally to
you or you have not mastered. When we need to use these skills, it is not
very comfortable – nor very joyful. Instead of “suffering” through the
activity, find other means to get the job done.
10. Live in
Integrity to Your Values
When our behaviors or thoughts are in disharmony with our values, we can
feel quite uncomfortable. Sometimes we may not realize what our values are.
The first step is to identify your top 1 – 4 value aspects that you value
the very most. |
